Janet Clark Playground
Janet Clark Playground is located on the BCC grounds at 601 Spurlin Circle. This park has a pavilion, picnic tables, an innovative playground, and unique “old school” swings. This park has easy access to all of the sidewalks at the Berryville Community Center. This playground was established in 2017 and funded in memory of Janet Clark.
Janet West Clark is the great granddaughter of Isaac Asbury Clarke, the founder of Clarke’s Academy. “Professor Clarke” founded Clarke’s Academy in Berryville. The school was a renown highlight of Berryville in the years 1863-1905. The large, white, private academy building is still owned by the Clark family at 102 Academy Road. Janet Clark and her husband Wayne Clark worked to transcribe the extensive letters, diary entries, and other writings of Professor Clark for posterity. Wayne Clark and the Rotary Club honor Janet Clark for her lifetime of service as a Berryville citizen, devoted wife, and mother.
The creation of the park began in 2014 with community fundraising efforts. Donations were given by many local businesses and citizens, and the Clark family donation completed the funds needed for the park.
The park opened in July 2017 and it quickly became one of the most popular in town. You will regularly hear laughter ringing through the trees surrounding this beautiful park.
