SAUNDERS HEIGHTS
Accessible via Mountain Avenue (turn east – look for the gray sign post) at Hwy 21/221.
Drive to the top of the mountain for a view overlooking the city skyline to the west.
This park is named in honor of local dignitary and famous gun enthusiast, C.B. “Buck” Saunders, of Saunders Museum.
The summit of Saunders Heights features picnic tables and a spectacular view. Plan to drive to the top of the mountain at sunrise or sunset for an incredible vista.
The top of the mountain provides access to the May Rock Trail, an approximately half-mile round-trip hike. This is a relatively easy hike on natural earth trails. The trailhead is located on the north side of the mountain top, and is marked by a gate signifying “May Rock Trail”.
